The Ghana Library Association (GLA) is the main recognized parasol body representing libraries and information services in the country.

GLA was founded in 1962 as an offshoot of the West African Library Association (WALA). The GLA was registered as a Professional Association under the Professional Bodies Decree NRCD 143 of 1973 with Registered No. PB 21 on 2nd August 1986 in accordance with the Laws of Ghana.

Message from the President

Dear Esteemed members and Sympathisers,

It is with deep gratitude and great enthusiasm that I greet you as President of the Ghana Library Association. Whether you work in academic, public, school, special libraries, your contribution dedication continues to shape the heart and future of our communities and institutions.

Libraries have always been more than just buildings; they are spaces of equity, access, inquiry, and imagination. In this period of rapid technological change, rising information challenges, and evolving community needs, library professionals remain on the frontlines championing intellectual freedom, digital literacy, lifelong learning, and inclusion.

Our Association exists to uplift and support that mission. This year, we are focused on a membership drive, sustainability, grassroots participation and media engagement. Through new programs, strengthened partnerships, and expanded professional development opportunities, we aim to empower ourselves in readiness for the task ahead.

I encourage you to engage actively with the Association in your regions, attend events, join committees, share your thoughts, and connect with peers across disciplines. The strength of our Association lies in the passion, innovation, and commitment of our members, you are our greatest resource.
