What you need to know as a member
There are three clear broad memberships namely professional, para-professional and institutional. Membership is acquired by registration into the following six categories;
Students studying Information and Library Studies and who are not employed in any organization. Student Member is used strictly to mean young ones who are in school and not those who are in employment and have the permission to go to school.
Associate Members (AM) are library professionals with (diploma) and/or first degree in Information Science.
Chartered Members (CM) are library professionals with Masters (MA/MPhil) degrees and beyond in Information Science.
A Fellow of GLA (FGLA) is the highest membership level which is conferred by Council on personalities in the profession who have distinguished themselves in the area of service to the Association, research activities, member in good standing etc.
A person of distinction who is not actively engaged in Library work, but who in the opinion of the Council has rendered distinguished service in promoting the objects of the Association or for meritorious contributions to library development in Ghana
A Member of the Association who retires from active service/work. He/she shall enjoy all rights and privileges of full membership.
This is awarded to a Member who is retired from active library service or related activities and has been a member of the Association for a total of twenty (20) years.
Individuals and Organisations looking for guidance and assistance for their library development projects and programmes.
